From One Star, Millions

2021 – 2022

A camera is not just a means for capturing a definitive moment. It is also an illustrative tool that facilitates the layering of time and the superimposition of perceptions.

From One Star, Millions is the sun on the movement of the sea. Using multiple exposure features in-camera, the images created are an overlaying of light and time. – expressing the shape of the sea only by capturing the specular highlights created by its movement. With the camera I “painted” the sea. The process is both additive (to the highlights) and reductive (to the shadows), highlighting some features while obliterating others, to create “day for night” images that express the passage of time upon the water.
From One Star, Millions is a series within the ‘Persistence of Vision’ project exploring the aspect of time through in-camera techniques to create multiple exposures of a subject combined into a single image.
